Change is Possible

The death of her parents and loss of her family home in 2013 was almost more than Relphalette C. could bear. She became homeless, but she kept faith that she’d eventually overcome the obstacles that kept her from stability.

“Through faith, determination and support from my nieces, I vowed to do whatever I needed to do to change my life for the better,” Relphalette said.

Relphalette reached out to CaringWorks for help and in 2017 she began receiving housing and other support, including counseling services. As a recovering addict, she credits her counselors and care coordinators for helping her stay on a path toward recovery and healing.

“They gave me the opportunity to become more responsible and independent.”

Recognizing the invaluable benefit of the support she’s received, Relphalette now hopes to become a peer support counselor so that she can also help and encourage others.

“I’m proof that you can change and grow for the better,” she said.
