“Where I Found My Passion”

Employee Spotlight: Shalondria Turk, Associate Clinical Director — Behavioral Health

Shalondria Turk has dedicated her career to helping people escape homelessness. Nearly 13 years ago she started as a volunteer with CaringWorks and since then she has worked in various roles.

“I saw how the agency supported people experiencing homelessness and I was drawn to it. I just knew this was where I wanted to be. I fell in love with the mission.”

Many of us have uncertainties about our professional path—especially early on in our career—but that wasn’t the case for Shalondria.

“I got my start here at CaringWorks; it’s where I found my passion and built my career.”

Today Shalondria serves as CaringWorks’ Associate Clinical Director where she helps oversee the outpatient behavioral health program, including providing clinical supervision, supporting staff, and making sure clients are receiving quality care. But Shalondria says it’s more than that.

“It’s not just about providing clinical and programmatic support,” she said. “It’s about showing up for people, helping them feel seen and supported. We meet them where they are and walk with them at their pace.”

Shalondria says the best part of her job is seeing people grow and heal.

“I’ve watched clients become homeowners, reunite with family, and start new careers. It’s amazing to witness that kind of transformation.”

The work can be hard and emotional, but Shalondria says she feels supported and equipped to meet its challenges.

“I’ve had great mentors and leadership along the way that helped me stay grounded.”

In her experience, Shalondria has seen the many faces of homelessness and cautions against forming stereotypes.

“Homelessness doesn’t look one way. People come from all walks of life, and many just need a chance and some support. There’s always a story behind the struggle.”

Shalondria sums up her experiences at CaringWorks with one word: grateful.

“This work means a lot to me, and I’m just thankful to be a part of something that really makes a difference.”
